Summer Camp 07 -- Getting ready to head for Camp Emerson

Welcome to Troop 227!   Since the Troop was founded in the mid 1960's Troop 227 has been dedicated to having fun, learning, and helping the boys (and adults!) grow through Boy Scouting.  We are a boy-run Troop, in that the Scouts plan their year's activities, run the meetings, and lead the outings.  The adult members of the troop support these activities and help provide logistics and backup for the boys. All parents are invited onto the outings if they desire to attend, but we request adults who regularly participate in outings take the Scout Adult Leader Training and Youth Protection training.

Meetings

We have weekly meetings every Wednesday night at St. Bonaventure Church in Huntington Beach, a Catholic Faith Community at 16400 Springdale Street (at Heil).    Meetings are held from 7:00 pm until approximately 8:30 pm.    Each month we have a Parents & Leadership Meeting where the Troop leadership and the parents of the Troop discuss upcoming plans and current activities.  This is usually held the 4th Wednesday of each month.   Every quarter we have a Troop Court of Honor where individual Scouts are recognized for their advancements and achievements by the Troop.

Annual Plan
Every year the Scouts establish an Annual Plan for outings and activities.  Our Annual Plan is for:

  • Outings:  Approximately 1 weekend outing per month with the boys, primarily car-camping  expeditions in Southern California.  We also have at least 1 backpack trip each year, as well as other family or training days.  Once selected by the Scouts, each outing is organized by an adult leader who obtains the needed permits, permission slips and reservations.  On the outing, the Scouts plan their activities, participate in patrols which are responsible for setting up their campsite, cooking, and working together.  Adults and the senior Troop leadership form the "Adult Patrol".  Outings in 2004-2007 included Anza Borrego, Circle X, the Klondike Derby, Joshua Tree,  Vasquez Rocks, and Mt. Islip, among others.

  • Summer Camp:   We plan for a summer camp at a local Scout reservation for 1 week each summer.  In 2003 this was at Cherry Valley on Catalina Island, in 2004 the camped at Lost Valley, in 2005 we went to to Camp Oljato in the Sierras, and in 2006 we returned to Cherry Valley.  For 2007 We will return to Lost Valley
  • Service Projects:  We participate in numerous service projects for the community.  These will be scheduled as we identify them through the year.
